Westfield Friends

Parent Council

Back to School Night
Thursday, September 18. This is the first Parent Council event of the school year. We gather in the auditorium for a general introduction, and then adjourn to the individual classrooms. Dress is informal and Parent Council dues ($10) are collected at this time.

Campbell's Label Campaign
Westfield will be participating again this year (our 22nd) in the Campbell Company's Labels for Education Program. In this undertaking, Campbell product labels are accumulated and redeemed for various kinds of school equipment. The number of labels needed is directly proportional to the value of each object desired. We have, in the past, received books, sports equipment, and classroom aids for our labels. This year the campaign is a third grade service project.

General Mills "Boxtops for Education"
For this year's promotion, we will be collecting the General Mills "Boxtops of Education" insignia printed on the boxtops of General Mills cereals, yogurts, fruit roll-ups, and other snack products. These will be redeemed by Parent Council for cash.

Cinnaminson Acme Register Tapes
Continue to save Cinnaminson Acme register tapes. Blue tapes only. These will be redeemed by Parent Council for a 1% rebate.

UNICEF Collection
UNICEF boxes are given to the children prior to October 31, to be returned after "halloweening". Please encourage your children to trick-or-treat for the less fortunate, also.

Clothing Drive
Between Halloween and Thanksgiving, the school collects clothing for distribution by six local charitable groups. Distribution of goods is made to Camden and Burlington counties, and also made to American Indians, and in the rural South. This clothing drive continues throughout the year with the Meeting House porch being the ongoing collection depot.

Halloween Program
Masquerade Extraordinaire! At 9:00 a.m. on Friday October 31, the entire school assembles to guess one another by class. Parents are cordially invited to attend - be sure to bring your camera.

School Merchandise
The school makes available to parents the opportunity to purchase sweatshirts and tee shirts, along with other related garments festooned with the school's name.

Thanksgiving Program
All classes sing or present offerings for Thanksgiving. This begins at 10:00 a.m. on November 26. Everyone is invited. Please come - bring your cameras. Thanksgiving vacation commences at its conclusion.

Thanksgiving Food Collection
The day of our Thanksgiving recess, Wednesday November 26, we collect food to be distributed to local families and agencies servicing needy local people.

Christmas Program
All-school effort starts off the Christmas Holidays December 19, with a delightful morning of pageantry. The children have already attended the program the morning before to ensure more room to seat the parents. Plan to come early - seating is still at a premium!

Christmas Luncheon
This is an annual event held at the close of school, after the Christmas Program, to say "thank you" to the teachers and staff for all their time and effort on behalf of our children. The Parent Council hosts the school staff.

Easter Egg Hunt
This annual event involves all the school on the day before our Easter recess, April 9. Colored paper eggs are hidden over the entire school property and are redeemed for jelly beans at the conclusion of the hunt. It is a festive, active occasion to which parents are cordially invited.

Field Day
Each class participates in the all-school garnet and blue competition, which will be held Saturday, May 16 at 3:00 p.m.

Outreach Projects
Each class participates in several service projects through the school year. Classes decide on specific areas of concern, and projects differ from year to year.

6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Dances
Four dances are sponsored by the Parent Council on November 14, February 13, April 24, and May 29. The dances begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m. for our older students at a modest one dollar admission.
