Over the past several months, Teacher Quoa's second grade class has been immersed in a poetry study, exploring a variety of poem types and reading works by different authors. Throughout the unit, students experimented with language, imagery, and creative expression as they developed their own voices as young poets.
After writing approximately ten original poems each, students selected their three favorite pieces to be included in our published class book, I Am a Poet. Their poems were compiled and sent to Student Treasures for publication, and we were thrilled to receive the finished books.
To celebrate this accomplishment, we will host a Poetry Reading on Wednesday, June 4. During this special event, students will share their featured poems with family and friends, receive published author certificates, and celebrate the completion of their very first poetry book.
This project has been a meaningful opportunity for students to see themselves as real authors and to take pride in their writing. We are incredibly proud of their creativity, perseverance, and growth throughout this process.
