Nurturing Spirits: Introducing Our New First Day School Program
We are overjoyed to announce a vibrant new chapter for the youth of our community. Starting immediately, Westfield Friends Meeting will support the spiritual lives of our youngest seekers with a structured First Day School program. Designed to ground children in the rich traditions of the Religious Society of Friends, our program will meet every 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sunday at 10:00 AM.
A Dedicated Educator
At the heart of this initiative is a teacher who embodies both the professional expertise and the spiritual depth necessary for Quaker education. We are honored that the program is led by Georgeanne Catanella. As a long-standing Westfield member and a practicing Friend, Georgeanne brings a deep personal commitment to the Way of Friends. Furthermore, as a certified teacher, she provides the pedagogical structure and classroom experience required to create a formal, engaging, and age-appropriate learning environment. Her dual role as both a spiritual mentor and a professional educator ensures that our children are in the most capable hands.
Faith in Practice: The Curriculum
This is more than just childcare; it is a formal religious education designed to help children build a sturdy spiritual foundation. Our curriculum utilizes FGC (Friends General Conference) approved Quaker Affirmation materials. These resources are specifically curated to help children explore their own "Inner Light" while connecting them to the wider world of Quaker thought.
The program offers a comprehensive look at what it means to be a Friend, encompassing:
- The SPICES: Exploring our core testimonies of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.
- Quaker History: Learning about the courageous men and women who shaped our faith.
- Practice and Theology: Understanding the "why" behind our silent worship and our unique approach to the Divine.
