What has Preschool 2 been up to?
Greetings to all the amazing parents! Our wonderful friend Yesi, welcomed her beautiful baby boy on March 26. Both mother and child are in good health.
The children in our preschool have experienced a wonderful month. We had chickens visit our classroom. We got a chance to hold and pet the chickens. Some preschoolers wanted to name the chickens. Others wanted to take the chickens home.  This was a great experience as a hands on learning since we had started to talk about spring and easter. The children had asked where do eggs come from? We learned that birds and chickens lay eggs. Once the eggs are ready to hatch either a baby bird or a chick will pop out.  We did our own baby chicks hatching. The children were given two pieces of paper, shaped like ovals in yellow and white .  They had to glue the ovals together to make it look like we hatched our own chicks. They glue googly eyes, an orange triangle and decorated their eggs with colorful polka dots and gold stars. This was a great project to work on cognitive development and hand -eye cordination along with fine motor skills.
We also had large colorful paper eggs decorated with strips of tissue paper. The children used glue and decorated their beautiful eggs using color tissue paper to create mosaic eggs.  We did other paper ovals and decorated them using the dot to dot dabbers.  This was such a great activity to help with hand-eye co-ordination,fine motor skills and handwriting skills.
We had an Easter egg celebration with special snacks and afterwards we had story time. We ended our celebration with an indoor easter egg hunt.  The children had to search high and low for the eggs that were filled with goodies.
      April
April began with several rainy days, so we focused on weather. We read Little Cloud by Eric Carle. First the children were given different shades of blue and asked to paint what the rain looks like. The children used paint brushes and picked the different shades of blue for their art work. They mixed and mixed and painted wonderful visions of what rain looks like.   We created our on cloud by using cotton balls and strectching them out and gluing them onto blue construction paper.  We can not have clouds and rain and not have a rainbow. We are learning the order of  colors in a rainbow. We listen to Jack Hartman and The Colors of the rainbow song. There are seven colors in the rainbow. Red,orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
Our preschool friends where given water color paints and asked to paint their version of a rainbow. Some friends used long strokes and some had short strokes. They did some swirls and dashes and dots.  Our beautiful weather theme art work is hanging up in the classroom.
We have been working on writing using dry erase boards, letter recognition using magnetic letters, sorting pebbles and  building with trains and blocks.
