Teacher Margaret's "View From My Window" - November 18th

Today I learned that entrepreneurial Sixth Grade students, Julia and Imogene, have started a new service for Middle School students where they will clean, organize and even decorate lockers. They call their service “Lunch Locker”. (Initially, I thought they were calling themselves “Locker Love”!)  As someone who routinely walks by and around the overflow from Middle School lockers, I appreciate this initiative.

Disguised TurkeyI listened to Kindergarten students stand up and share with their PreKindergarten friends how they had disguised their turkey to keep it safe through Thanksgiving. I witnessed 4th and 5th-grade artists working outside with Teacher Deborah. They were so engrossed in drawing trees, they ran over their art time by ten minutes. I enjoyed watching 1st-grade students learn to think and throw like a quarterback and catch like a running back. Their pride was evident as they got better and better at getting the ball to the receiver…..now if the receiver would just catch that small, foam football.

COVID-19

The holidays are here. To help you and your family stay safe, you and your children are welcome to take advantage of the onsite PCR COVID-19 testing that will be held in the Meeting House from 10-10:30 on the following Thursdays: 12/2, 12/9, 12/16. You must accompany your child and you must bring insurance information and identification.

I strongly encourage you to speak with your pediatrician and have your student vaccinated against COVID-19. I was on a national call today and the pediatricians and epidemiologists were reporting minimal side effects from the vaccines for children ages 5-11. The COVID vaccine is not required for school. However, the sooner we reach a high level of community members having been vaccinated, the sooner we will be able to relax some of our COVID protocols.

To help us assess the level of vaccination within our student community, you will get an email from Magnus Health asking you to indicate whether or not your student has completed the two-shot course. Only reply “yes” if your child has had both shots. If you reply “no” the system will ask you to provide a timeline for when this information will become available and from your input the system will provide reminders. All uploaded information will be reviewed for acceptance.
