Position Westfield Friends School seeks applications for a full-time teacher of Spanish, beginning January 29, 2024

Reports to Head of School

Exempt/Non-exempt Exempt

Compensation Commensurate with Experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach full-time load of Spanish classes in grades Kindergarten through 6th
  • Attend faculty meetings and other planning meetings as necessary.
  • Prepare student reports which include narrative descriptions of students' achievements and needs.
  • Demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning on a daily basis for both students and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, with respect to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study, content, pedagogy, use of appropriate technology resources, and the social and emotional needs of elementary and middle school students
  • Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, and school duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience in working effectively with a wide range of students.
  • Able to think broadly and innovatively about curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Capable of weaving cultural competence of target language and culture into the curriculum and classroom.
  • Value collegial collaboration.
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
  • Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
  • Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comfort and experience with educational technology including Google Suite apps and other digital learning platforms.

Spanish Teacher Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required for this teaching position.
  • Native Spanish speaker preferred but not required.
  • Proven written and verbal proficiency in Spanish.
  • Two or more years of elementary school teaching experience. Independent school experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices
  • Proficiency in Google Suite for schools.
  • Strong affinity for the mission of Westfield Friends School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker beliefs.

Position Fourth Grade Teacher - Leave Replacement

Description:

Westfield Friends School seeks a visionary, dynamic, Fourth Grade Teacher for a spring trimester leave replacement. Westfield Friends School teachers are committed to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in their classrooms. They engage in ongoing professional development in order to further the school’s mission. Within this collaborative community of colleagues, the Fourth Grade Teacher will implement project-based, developmentally appropriate curricula in a variety of areas, partner and communicate regularly and effectively with parents, and engage actively with this thriving, learning community.

Fourth Grade Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Lower School teachers in co-creating the program and ensuring the development and learning of each child in the class.
  • Create a classroom environment that engenders a deep sense of belonging through fostering a diverse, socially just, inclusive, and equitable learning environment for children and their families
  • Develop and teach cross-disciplinary units furthering Westfield’s pedagogical focus on project-based learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create and implement multi-grade and multi-disciplinary learning experiences
  • Monitor and document students’ development and progress
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through email, brief conversations, newsletters, conferences, and progress reports.

Fourth Grade Teacher Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree required; specialization in elementary education preferred, advanced degree a plus
  • 3 years of relevant classroom teaching experience in elementary education
  • Experience with Project Based Learning 
  • A background in two or more of the following school curricula Reading and Writing Workshop, Words Their Way, and Math in Focus
  • Proficiency in Google Suite for schools.
  • Strong communication skills used to build partnerships with families and colleagues
  • Able to meet varied tasks and responsibilities with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and humor
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning
