The 8th Grade Debate and Diplomacy Project began after the students read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The novel acted as a springboard for the students to explore the successes, failures, and consequences of debate and diplomacy.
Each student chose a person, place, or event to research, and they were tasked with using primary and secondary sources to best understand their topic.
The students learned to value multiple perspectives, consider the short-term and long-term consequences, and synthesize the information into a Google Slides presentation for the entire Middle School community.
