Elephant Toothpaste at Westfield? What Is That?!

As a culminating activity to their year of chemistry, 7th grade made "elephant toothpaste."

Using potassium iodide as a catalyst, hydrogen peroxide is rapidly broken down into water vapor and oxygen, trapping the gases in dish soap.  The result is a column of foam that some think looks like toothpaste being squeezed from a giant tube!

Many thanks to alum Joshua Cope '83 for all the help!
