The students in 6th and 7th grades had a beautiful autumn day to gain a firsthand experience understanding the topics in the Middle School science curriculum. This curriculum delves into oceanology, ecology, and marine debris.

The classes traveled to Island Beach State Park to participate in the Clean Ocean Action Student Summit along with 20 other schools from South Jersey.

One of the activities the students participated in was seining the bay where they recovered crabs, a sea horse, a spider crab, mussels, shrimp, a tautog fish, pipe fish, and other types of fish.

Everyone did a beach cleanup where they counted the microplastics that they picked up and also had a beach scavenger hunt.

The rest of the day was spent rotating through stations where they learned about terrapin turtles, the watershed, the invertebrates, and horseshoe crabs.
