Teacher Margaret's "View From My Window" - January 4th

3 windows 1.4.24

Dear Friends,

rushmore first dayThe view from my window is a bit different today. I am sitting in my office in Rushmore House. We moved in on Tuesday and have been enjoying our new spaces. The Preschool Three students have been telling me what they enjoy best – every one of them begins with “being back with my friends is the best, best part”. One friend told me that he liked choosing a different hook for his coat each day. Another one showed me where she kept her sleeping bag and that she liked looking out the big window. Another child wanted me to see the light table. A fourth child wanted me to know that their new stuffie liked sleeping with them on the new carpet.  I enjoyed watching the children and staff move around the various stations and then gather for circle time and a story. Most of the morning I could hear them quietly and joyfully exploring and learning. I got to sit with a few of them for their lunch and now, the only sounds I hear are the muffled cars on Route 130 . . . it's naptime for Preschool Three!

Middle School students in their Weekly Meeting for Business will begin a civic engagement discernment process.  They will be working together to agree on what they believe the top five priorities should be for Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) in its work with the 119th Congress beginning in 2025. FCNL asks Quaker Meetings, other faith groups, Quaker organizations, and individuals to help it discern where to put its focus with each new Congress - how best to use and steward its time, talent, and treasure. Students will think together about what is important to them as young people. At the end, they will send their recommendations to FCNL.

Warmly,

Margaret Haviland
