Dear Westfield,
May is a time for joy and reflection. If you blink the “100 days of May” will be gone. April ended with a wonderfully celebratory and successful Taste of Our Towns. Thank you everyone who helped, who supported, who bid, who came to share in our community evening.
We had so much fun last Friday. Scores of pancakes were eaten. Preschool 2 and Preschool 3 students hosted their grandparents and grandfriends on a day that encouraged time on the playground. Older students reprised earlier performances for their grandparents. Then they had time for cross-generational learning. The morning ended with a heartfelt Meeting for Worship where grandparents were appreciated in ministry, celebrating their special place in children’s lives.
The week began with piñata smashing and celebrating Cinco de Mayo with Teacher Andrea. Tuesday, we were thrilled by the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade performance of their play, Go Fish. Team Prek welcomed Grace Gardner, WFS alum and current MFS senior. She is completing her senior year by helping out in Team Prek. Family Council is showing their love for Westfield teachers and staff by providing delicious meals for us each day this week. The amazing student art show continues to delight. Teacher Deborah is in the process of hanging a new Monarch Butterfly installation with butterfly creations made by each student.
With all the headlines, sound bites, and longform articles screaming for our attention, outrage, and allegiance, I know Westfield serves you and your children best by leaning into our mission - our belief that there is that of God in every child and adult and that the Sacred is always present. We will insist on putting children and childhood at the center of our work. We will practice the deep listening that we achieve every Wednesday during Meeting for Worship for blessed moments when the susurration of 120 young, human bodies miraculously stills.
Thank you for sharing your children with us.
Warmly,
Margaret
