Screech Owl Rescued at Westfield!

Early this Thursday morning, our Preschool 3 friends were playing in their playground after being dropped off at school. One of the students, Charlie, discovered a little baby owl at the foot of a tree, by a big log.

With much excitement, he ran to Teacher Danielle to let her know. She, then, called our custodian, Mr. Don, who promptly came to the rescue. The teeny owl seemed scared, but looked just fine.

Then, Miss Jillian took our lost little owl into her car and drove all the way to Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford, making sure it would be well taken care of.

At the Refuge, Miss Jillian was told that our little friend was not yet a fledgling, and that once the owl was on the ground, the owl parents would not come to its rescue. She was even given a tracking code, so that we can check in to see how they're doing.

Little screech owl's parents up in the tree -- way too far up to be able to replace the little one

Our little baby screech owl was well taken care of. Too bad Hootie wasn't around to help make our little friend feel even more comfortable!
