  • Back by popular demand!!! Guided by an amazing lead from Higher Minds, the curriculum includes weekly character education themes, mindful breathing, yoga poses, songs, activities, games, and art. Mindfulness practices can help children self-regulate their emotions and become calmer and more connected. Each lesson is designed to build upon skills week to week. Examples of weekly themes include empathy, kindness, humility, compassion, and gratitude. Teacher Laura Rubino holds a BA in Psychology, a Master's in Education, an NJ Teaching Certificate (K-8), and an RYT 500 Yoga Certification. Families can keep the mindfulness going at home with Ms. Laura’s weekly Mindful Minute videos on YouTube, offering playful breathing exercises, yoga poses, and calming strategies that parents and children can enjoy together.   • The chess club is designed to introduce students to the exciting world of chess while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills. Through engaging lessons, interactive gameplay, and age-appropriate instruction, students learn the rules of chess, fundamental tactics, and classic strategies in a supportive and fun environment. Whether your child is a beginner or already knows the basics, our program meets students where they are and helps them grow. Instructors use a blend of demonstration boards, puzzles, guided play, and tournaments to reinforce learning and build confidence on and off the board.

We’re excited to offer this new club through Nexplore! It is a perfect mix of exercise and excitement! Zumba fitness classes are rocking dance parties packed with specially choreographed, age-appropriate routines. Students will love moving to high-energy music, including hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia, and more. This course has many positive effects, like increasing focus, building self-confidence, boosting metabolism, and enhancing coordination. Zumba inspires students to express themselves through movement and play while effectively improving their overall health and well-being.

  • Join Teacher Margaret to look for and better understand the natural campus we share. We will read some nature-based books to kick off our explorations. We will learn the names and characteristics of some of the trees, plants, birds, and insects that call this place home. We may do some campus love and pick up trash we encounter on our explorations.

This year, our school will be performing a production of Seussical Jr. Everyone can have a part! No experience necessary. Please look out for a separate email from Teacher Eddie about signing up and all the dates.

  • We’re excited to offer this new club through Nexplore! This exciting engineering program inspires students to pursue futures in science and technology. While working with Maker Kits, students build mechanical, artistic, and engineering skills and learn to act as inventors in their own right. They design remote-controlled hydraulic arms, learn to harness energy to power race cars, and experiment with structural design. Students keep their inventions and proudly share their projects with family and friends.

  • Join Ms. Lauren for a fun and welcoming space for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th, where students will play, connect, and challenge their minds. With a mix of classic favorites and new games, students will build teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship while enjoying friendly competition in a relaxed, engaging environment.

  1. Ceramics Club (2nd - 8th Grade)
    Mondays 3:15 - 4:15 (2nd - 8th Grade)
    (Minimum of 10 students required, Maximum of 12)
  • Join Ms. Gianna in the pottery studio to learn all about clay! We will discuss how wet clay is shaped and slowly dried to become bone-dry before being fired in the kiln at about 2000 degrees! When our creations are bisque-fired, we will glaze them before firing them again. Children will have the freedom to make pinch pots, tiles, coil pots, or any sculptures using their imagination. We will cover different techniques and the process of prepping your clay for the kiln, and you will take home your creations at the end of the trimester!

  • The Owl Observer is a club where students will report on what is happening in our school community. Students will learn the ins and outs of journalism. They will write articles about school events, students, teachers, and their experiences at Westfield. Written pieces will be read and shared throughout the school and posted on the Weekly Wire.
