OUR COMMUNITY SPEAKS

There is a remarkable sense of momentum at Westfield right now, as our students translate their curiosity into creativity and advocacy.

They are working on and enhancing their public speaking skills: Fourth grade will soon present their NJ Symposium, where each student transforms into an impactful figure from New Jersey, and the after-school musical club has been tirelessly preparing for their upcoming Little Mermaid Jr. production.

Second grade has been learning the science behind making rootbeer floats, our 5th graders are modeling the delicate balance of food webs, and 8th graders are diving into the subatomic world using digital simulations.

The whole school is having a blast being involved in our annual reading competition, March Madness Book Tournament, where Teacher Margaret creates a bracket with 16 "teams" (books). Each grade starts with a pair of books to read, having two days to choose a book to advance to the next round. At the end, there’s a clear winner between the fiction and nonfiction categories of books.

Our middle school students will soon embark on learning about political activism and civic engagement. Once they choose and research an area of focus, they will present a plan for change and use this to participate in the FCNL legislative priorities process for the 120th Congress.

Projects and technologies evolve, but the core experiences of being 'truly known' have remained the same. These moments of discovery and creativity are the same ones our alumni experienced in the past and are what create the lifelong foundation our alumni carry with them.

Westfield holds a special place in Class of 2000, David Skinner’s heart.

He deeply believes that Westfield is a community that doesn’t just educate—it shapes thoughtful, grounded individuals who lead with empathy and integrity. He shares how Westfield provided a safe space for him to break out of his shell and think critically about the world. Whether it was finding his voice on stage or discovering the power of silence and reflection in Quaker Meeting, Westfield taught him how to truly listen and act with compassion.

David chooses to donate because he sees firsthand how transformative this education is. To ensure Westfield thrives for generations to come, you, too, can help us reach our goal for the Strategic Fund.
