Art

Joyful and fearless creativity

Westfield students engage in art every week. Over the course of the year, they immerse themselves in color theory, value studies, and media explorations. Lessons regarding art history, contemporary art, and multicultural studies are woven into the curriculum. Among the areas of study are drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, two and three-dimensional design, and digital media. Westfield has two art studios. The dedicated pottery studio provides students with the facility necessary to explore the messy, malleable, and challenging media of pottery.

The students often work collaboratively and partake in cross-curricular projects, and their artwork is displayed throughout the campus. An annual art show offers our young artists the opportunity to showcase their work.

Through the Looking at Art presentation, art teacher Deborah Moss Marris guides students through presentations on various artists, works, genres, and experiences, helping us all to learn to look at art with a critical eye.
