Teacher Margaret's "View From My Window" - November 4th

We have begun our month-long consideration of gratitude. At Meeting for Worship this week, a teacher shared that they are thankful they get to come and work with such wonderful students and colleagues.  We will finish this consideration at our Meeting for Worship for Thanksgiving on November 23rd at 10:00 AM. Students and teachers will gather in the gym. Parents, guardians, and other family members are invited to join us via ZOOM. This will be a Meeting for Worship with attention to singing. As a community we will sing six songs together, we will consider our queries on being grateful, and we will enjoy a period of gathered worship.

I am thankful for the spectacular BOOOOOOth Bash this past Saturday. The pictures only begin to do justice to the creativity that went into the booths, tables, and trunks. Hootie the Owl was so impressed - he put in an appearance, too.

I am thankful for all of the hard work and community support that culminates next week with a visit by the five members of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools accreditation team. This three-day visit will be the capstone of months (even years) of work and reflection on how Westfield Friends School lives into and demonstrates best practices in all areas of school life from Governance and Mission, to Development and Admissions, to Community Life and Culture, to Student Academic, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Learning, to Financial Sustainability and School Safety. The visiting team consists of:

  • Chair, David Lowry, Retired Head of School, The Elisabeth Morrow School (also a Quaker)
  • Richard Pagano, Retired Director of Finance and Operation, The Elisabeth Morrow School
  • Kellen Kent,  Director of Admission & Financial Aid, Early Childhood & Lower School Division Head, Chatham Day School
  • Stephen Mitchell, Middle School History/Humanities Teacher, Rutgers Preparatory School
  • Jennifer Zinman, Science Department Chair, Inclusion Coordinator

I am thankful for volunteers Michelle Lin, Jessica Bacon, Julie Faulkner, and Mandy Sigman who have helped restart our library program for our PreK through second-grade students.

I am looking for volunteers who would like to be parent ambassadors for the school’s Annual Fund. This will be an opportunity to call parents and encourage they to participate in the Annual Fund. This year’s goal for the Annual Fund includes reaching 70% parent participation. For grades that reach 80% parent participation, we will provide a pizza party for the class.

I am looking for a team of volunteers who would like to help plan our “Taste of Our Towns” spring fundraiser. This year we are looking forward to an in-person, on-campus fun community event showcasing local restaurants, caterers, coffee roasters, and bakers. If you would like to chair the planning committee or be a part of planning this event, please let me know.

Warmly,

Margaret
