Teacher Margaret's "View From My Window" - June 1st

Dear Friends,

We are enjoying all of our end-of-year traditions.

Buddies exchanged cards, made owls, shared special treats, and played outside together.

Some of our preschool friends joined us for Meeting for Worship together.

Other preschool friends have been busy making a cookbook of recipes shared by families.

Seventh Grade students performed in a Poetry Coffeehouse for students in grades 3-8. They stood on stage and read original poems and favorite poems by published poets.

Sixth Grade will share with families and older grades their final presentation on their study of the science and culture they learned about in All Thirteen: The Incredible Rescue of the Thai Boy’s Soccer Team

Friday we have our annual school picnic and scavenger hunt.

Second grade will celebrate their study of Asia with a lunch prepared by Annie and Kurt Jung, parents of Nicole ‘20.

On Monday, Fourth Grade students will create their wonderful and jaw-achingly sweet New Jersey Cake.

Even as all of this fun happens students are wrapping up studies in math, completing reading assessments, and writing their last labs for science.

We are having an exciting admissions season. Some of our grades are full, we are fielding calls almost daily from families who have learned about Westfield from you, our existing families.

Our work in advancement is also strong. The Fund for Westfield is an important part of our annual budget and helps us bridge the gap between the tuition you pay and the cost to run this wonderful school. As you may imagine, teacher salaries and benefits are the largest part of the school’s budget.  If you have not made a gift to the Fund for Westfield, please consider doing so before the end of the fiscal year, June 30th.

I have been in regular meetings with the architects and builders who are working diligently to ready the Rushmore House for our Preschool Three students in the upcoming school year.

You will find the summer reading expectations for all students, even our new two-year-olds, on the school’s website. Students rising into second through eighth grades are also expected to do some math practice as well. Our goals for the summer reading and summer math programs are to encourage students love for reading and sustain their confidence as mathematicians.

Warmly,

Margaret
