Teacher Margaret's "View From My Window" - August 31st

Dear Friends,

Welcome everyone to our new school year!  Welcome to the  Weekly Wire. Your children have already experienced many of the parts of our school that make this a wonderful community for learning. Our very youngest students, Preschool Two, put on their raincoats and walked to the gym for indoor, rainy-day play. On their way back to the Meeting House, the sun came out. They were entranced, as they walked, by puddles and water sparkles.

Students in PreK through Eighth Grade attended our first Meeting For Worship. Out of the expectant listening, at least fifteen children stood and shared messages including “be kind to the earth”, “thank you for this school”, “spread love to everyone”, “have fun”, “let's take care of each other”. It was astonishing and moving.

Today we enjoyed our first Meeting for Singing. We gathered in the auditorium and Teacher Jessica led us through several of our school favorites including “Somos el Barco” and “This Land is Your Land”. We even managed a two-part round “ I Love the Mountains”!

There are so many ways to be involved at Westfield Friends. Next Wednesday, September 6th, we will have our first all-school gathering, the Family Council-sponsored “Ice Cream Social”. The next evening, September 7th, will be our first Family Council Meeting, held on Zoom from 7:00-8:00 pm. I hope to see you all there. The school’s calendar is kept up to date with all of our events.

Thank you to those of you who responded to me with the best time to meet to discuss World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments by Aimee Nezhukumatathil (Author), Fumi Nakamura (Illustrator). We will gather at 8:30 am next Friday, September 8th, in the library. Whether you have read the entire book or only one of the short essays please do join me. This is a BYOC event.
