Hand heartsMISSION

Westfield Friends School lights a brilliant path for children. As a Quaker school, we honor the Divine essence in every student; we find power and wisdom in our differences; and we seek truth through active, joyful, collaborative inquiry. Below, you will find the strategies for our COVID Best Practices at Westfield.
We would like to also direct you to our WFS 2022-2023 Parents & Guardians/Students Handbook, found in Family Portal.

As the 2022-2023 school year starts, COVID-19 remains a serious illness. Westfield Friends COVID Working Group met to review our layers of disease mitigation strategies. Our work continues to be informed by the NJDOE updated recommendations for schools July 2022, the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CHOP PolicyLab. Our goals are to protect vulnerable community members, decrease the likelihood of an in school outbreak, and keep Westfield adequately staffed.

We encourage all families to speak with their pediatricians about vaccinating their children. The COVID-19 vaccine is now approved for use with children as young as 6 months.

Below are some of the disease prevention and mitigation measures the school may take. Additional procedures may be added as the incidence of COVID cases or other communicable diseases rise in the region.

We will require that parents and invited guests wear masks in our building

  thermometer and survey

Parents remain our first line of defense in keeping illness out of school. Always err on the side of caution. If your child seems even the littlest bit less then their usual self in the morning, keep them home. Do not send children to school hoping that they will rally or muscle through.

  sanitizing
  • Most entrances and all classrooms have hand sanitizer dispensers. Students will be taught to use hand sanitizer every time they pass a dispenser
  • Students in grades 1-8 should keep personal hand sanitizer at school
  • Students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer at the start of each day, before meals and snacks, and frequently throughout the day
  • Staff will regularly sanitize all of the indoor and outdoor spaces. Teachers will minimize the need for shared materials.
  mask

Parents and guardians are responsible for sending their children to school with sufficient high quality KN95 or surgical masks

Our intention is that most of the school day students and staff will be able to choose whether or not to wear a mask. There will be times and places when every student, employee, parent, and visitor will wear a mask. Those mask wearing times and places will include:

  • Whenever Music classes are in the music room or other indoor space including the Preschool Building
  • Whenever we are singing as a whole community in any indoor space such as the gym, library, Meetinghouse, or Preschool Building
  • Whenever students are in the Art Studio for Art
  • When we worship together or gather together in the Meeting House or the gym or the library as a school or division of the school
  • When we gather in the gym for performances and have invited guests such as parents and guardians in attendance
  • We will require that parents and invited guests wear masks in our building

There will be times when individual students may be required to wear masks to return or remain in school following exposure to a close contact at home or within the school. In all cases, we will want students to wear masks in school for the full ten days of their potential contagion.

There will be faculty and students who choose to continue to wear masks as a part of their individual defense against COVID-19 and for their continued comfort in being in school. We will support all students and staff who will continue to wear masks.

Westfield Friends School may require short term universal masking during times of high disease transmission as required by county or state health officials.

   combined indoor outdooropen windows
  • All classrooms have Aeromax Air filtering units installed
  • Weather permitting, we may open windows
  • We will begin our days outside and go outside regularly to allow for rooms to be cleaned and aired

  • The speed limit is always 11 miles per hour; there is always the risk of a child being in the way of your car.
  • Adults should remain in their cars.
  • Allow staff to help your child with their book bags and other materials.
  • Plan for your children to exit on the right side of the car.
  • Do not use your cell phone while dropping off and picking up your child.
  • Pull away as soon as your child(ren) are safely out of the car, to make way for others.
  • Do not block Riverton Road, Police and Fire personnel have asked us to be sure to keep the roadway clear
  • Cinnaminson Bus will be pulling in the driveway to drop off our students. Please follow all School Bus Safety Rules and please do not pass any bus on the left side.

Afternoon Pick-up
3:00 PM - 3:15 PM

Students in Preschool 3 (full week), Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be picked up in front of the auditorium. Parents should pull in at the school entrance. Staff will bring your children to your car.

Students in Grades 1-8 will be picked up behind the auditorium. Parents will enter at the Meeting House and drive around the ribbons. Weather permitting, students will be waiting for pick-up on the field behind the auditorium.

If you have children in mixed grades (Preschool 3 full week, PreK, K, and also Grades 1-8) drop-off and pick-up for all should be in the younger students's area outside the Head of School Office.

Please do not arrive before 2:45, as the driveway will remain blocked until that time.

  • Our goal will be to have your child out to the car by the time you arrive at the pick-up station.
  • For their safety, children will only be loaded into the side of your car where they are waiting. Children will not walk around vehicles. Please remain inside your vehicle.
  • To keep the process flowing smoothly, we ask that you remain in your car and allow the staff to assist your child with bags, etc. However, staff will not fasten your children into their seats.
  • Once your child is safely in your car, you will proceed out and exit the driveway as usual.
  • If your child has forgotten something, pull into one of the available parking spaces
  • If a student is not waiting for you when they are expected to be, you will be asked to pull forward and wait for your child, so as not to hold up the line.

Morning Session Drop-Off 7:30 - 8:00 AM (All Students - Preschool Building)

  • Enter the parking lot near the Meeting House, driveway closest to Route 130, across from Bagelati.
  • Slowly bare right and proceed around to the back of the preschool building, where your student will be greeted by the morning care teachers. Before your child exits the car, the morning Extended Day staff person will ask about your child's health and if all is well will assist your child out of the car.

  • All students should be picked up at the atrium doors at the front of the school.
  • Parents should enter the main school driveway and park in the main school parking lot that faces Riverton Rd.

It is important to understand state and school requirements and complete the required Student Health Record Forms. Please note that, as per the State of New Jersey requirements, all students must provide the school with proof of up-to-date vaccinations by the start of the school year, or risk exclusion from classes on day 6 of school. If your child has a medical or religious exemption from the state immunization requirements, documentation must be supplied in place of vaccination records.
