Students have been learning our procedures and routines during the first few weeks of school. We have been practicing transitioning, walking in a line, and sharing and listening at morning meeting. We work on building our fine motor skills everyday by drawing pictures or practicing writing our name. We did our first "writing around the room," where each student has a clipboard, paper, and pencil and they can travel around the room and write the letters, numbers, and words. Everyday before Peace time, we read a book together as a team - some of the books we read are listed below! Sharing thoughts and ideas about stories we read helps build connections and strengthen language skills.
Here are a few books we read together:
"The Me I Choose to Be" Natasha Anastasia Tarplay
"10 Black Dots" Donald Crews
"Every Little Thing" Cedella Marley
"Oddbird" Derek Desierto
"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you See?" Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle
Science
Students did a Gummy Bear Experiment where each child got to put a few gummy bears into a cup of water. Each child made a hypothesis about what they thought would happen to the gummy bears in water. When we came in the next day, children discussed and drew their observations and then got to feel the gummy bears! Pictures are below.

Students have been exploring with math manipulatives each day. We have been exploring shape and color. We practice counting from 1-10 as a team in English and Spanish each morning and do a blast off where we count down from 10 together.

In Pre-K, we have been learning about all of the different art materials in our classroom and how to use them correctly. We have explored watercolors, crayons, markers, colored pencils, and oil pastels. Students are learning to be responsible and respectful of our art materials.
Our first artist is Jackson Pollock! He is an "action painter." Students got to put on their smocks and rainboots and go outside and splash paint on their canvas just like Jackson Pollock! Pictures below. All of their artwork will be displayed at the end of the year Pre-K art show on 5/30!
