Preschool - 3rd Grade

Summer Reading

Wonder WalkersIf your child is entering Preschool, Prek, Kindergarten, First, Second, or Third Grade, be sure to read Wonder Walkers and take a wonder walk with your child. Your child's summer assignment is to read lots and lots of books each day or to have books read to them every day. Help your child find books they think will be fun to have read to them by the adults and other readers in their lives. If your child is reading, help them find books they want to read. For all children in these grades look for a variety of picture books, genres, non-fiction, and books your child can read (or handle) on their own.

Reading is fun when done with others. Read to and alongside your children. Talk with your children about what you are reading and ask them to tell you about their books. Discuss the books you read together.

  • If you want, when your child or family finishes a book take your child or your family's picture with the book. Email your picture to any Westfield Friends School teacher or Teacher Margaret
  • If you want, send Teacher Margaret a postcard when your child finishes reading a book. Postcards can be hand made or from places you visit this summer. Teacher Margaret loves getting postcards. She will display them on the bulletin board outside of her office.  Send them to Margaret Haviland, 2201 Riverton Road, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077
  • Participate in your local library's summer reading program

Your local librarian will have lots of book suggestions. Below there are lists created by libraries, librarians, and bibliophiles. Be sure to look at the nonfiction and the picture books. These outstanding books can be enjoyed by the entire family.
